Position summary

The Software Developer maintains and creates quality, data-centric, interdependent systems to provide GLEIF’s services, in collaboration with colleagues and outsourcing partners. Throughout a project's life cycle, the Software Developer will autonomously and/or collaboratively drive technical projects, identify dependencies, facilitate technical decision and participate in cross-functional team discussions and be responsible for the quality, scope, effort, and timeliness of the deliverables.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical design, implementation, testing, documentation, integration and maintenance of data-centric applications and interdependent systems
  • Analyze problems, gather requirements and create technical designs & specifications
  • Maintain a high standard of software quality within the team by adhering to and establishing QA pipelines & best practices
  • Work on new projects and support the maintenance of existing ones
  • Collaborate with colleagues of all departments and outsourcing partners to plan, coordinate, and deliver work throughout a project's life cycle
  • Provide and receive constructive feedback in technical meetings and code reviews
  • Support the Head of IT Development & Operations in IT and service related matters
  • Proactively apprise the Head of IT Development & Operations of issues/concerns regarding IT development and/or operational matters
  • Experience and competencies for success

  • At least 3 years of experience writing robust software in a test-driven approach, ideally collaboratively
  • University degree in Computer Science or related field preferred
  • Excellent knowledge of PHP7, its ecosystem and best practices
  • Test-driven development workflow that results in modular and maintainable software
  • Knowledge of security best practices and defensive programming
  • Practical and recent experience with Laravel and a good understanding of its various components and underlying design principles
  • Ability to model complex problem domains and a good grasp of (No)SQL technologies
  • Comfortable collaborating in a multi-branch git workflow; e.g. "git flow"
  • Efficient & effective utilization of your text editor/IDE of choice
  • Ability to build and consume (RESTful) APIs; preferably knowledge of the JSON:API specification
  • Familiarity with the Linux command line
  • Team spirit and good communication skills
  • Fluent spoken and written English; additional language skills advantageous

A plus would be

  • Python 3+ programming skills
  • Fundamental understanding of XML, XSD, XSLT
  • Practical experience with processing large data sets and/or streams
  • Familarity with modern frontend web development technology & frameworks such as Vue.js
  • Practical "dev-ops" experience in utilizing tools such as Docker, Ansible, GitLab CI, etc. during the whole lifecycle of an application
  • Knowledge of Solr or similar search platforms
  • Exposure to ITIL in practice
  • A public GitHub profile
