The Global LEI Index
High-quality data, easily accessible
Global Legal Entity Identifier (GLEIF) makes all Legal Entity Identifier (LEI) records publicly available in the Global LEI Index, a data-rich global directory that is open and free to access by anyone, anywhere in the world.
Since its inception in 2014, the Global LEI Index has grown to more than three million LEI records, greatly enhancing transparency in the global marketplace, particularly in financial markets where the LEI is widely mandated. The Global LEI Index is routinely accessed by a wide range of data consumers, from regulatory supervisors to business data service providers and individual legal entities.
In line with the principles of ISO 17442, GLEIF’s commitment to maintaining both high-quality data and universal, no-cost access informs how it develops and administers the Global LEI Index.
Data quality
GLEIF is committed to best practice in data quality. It maintains a stringent data quality management system that benefits data governance and compliance at an individual entity level. This also provides data confidence for supervisors and a solid foundation for trusted open data initiatives.
Data access
GLEIF is engaged in a plethora of data governance initiatives and sector-specific technical integration partnerships to increase the capacity of the Global LEI System for the public good. It also runs its own digital transformation programs for the same purpose.
To ease data access, for example, GLEIF has developed integration APIs, machine learning tools, and advanced search facilities.
With a view to increasing the utility of LEI data, GLEIF has engaged in a variety of open data initiatives, including mapping partnerships with complementary identifiers and datasets, and linking projects to business registries.
