Organizational Identity LEI & vLEI

The LEI in Digital Certificates

The updated ISO 17442-2 standard, released in 2020, enables trust service providers to consistently embed Legal Entity Identifiers (LEIs) in digital certificates.

Since the LEI is a global, secure mechanism that provides reliable organizational identity data, incorporating LEIs into digital certificates and document e-signature processes provides a powerful, additional layer of trust that supports digital transformation.

An embedded LEI code can be checked consistently and automatically, regardless of the entity’s location, in the same way that the validation of the host certificate is performed. It also provides a direct link to that entity’s LEI-verified reference data, enabling automated revocation monitoring. The net result? Strong and reliable validation of an organization’s current data, together with the identity of those acting on behalf of the company.
